Milesburg Bridge Project

Tuesday, May 30th, 2017

PennDOT is continuing replacement work on the Route 144 bridge in Milesburg that spans the Jersey Shore Railroad tracks. Area drivers are being alerted to travel delays next week, as beam setting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, May 31. The week of May 29 will feature the following:

  • The contractor will be working on the project’s Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) wall
  • Beam setting on May 31 will bring travel delays as flaggers enforce an alternating traffic pattern so that off-loading and setting of the beams can take place. Once beams are set, two-way traffic will resume.

All work will take place during daylight hours and all work is weather and schedule dependent. The new bridge is expected to be complete in late October. Drivers are reminded to move through work zones with caution, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.

Riff Raff Week

Monday, May 15th, 2017

The week of May 22, 2017, through May 26, 2017, has been designated as Riff Raff Week for Bellefonte Borough refuse customers. During this week, Borough customers are permitted to place “riff raff” at the CURB only for pickup by Borough staff. There will be no charge for this extra pickup service. The riff-raff pickup will follow the same routes and schedules as the regular refuse collection service, with one pickup truck-size load limit per customer. The refuse crew will not make extra trips to an address. Tires, batteries, items too heavy for two men to handle, construction material, paint cans and hazardous waste cannot be picked up during riff-raff. Residents are not to use cardboard boxes for items if it is raining or it is calling for rain as it makes it difficult for the refuse crew to pick up the boxes without them falling apart. The Borough reserves the right to not collect if there is too much or it is too heavy.
