Limbs/Brush Pickup

If you do not have a brush container and you have limbs/brush that are bundled in 6 foot (or less) lengths, the Borough will pick these up. You must call the Borough office at 355-1501 by the Tuesday of the week you wish to have it picked up to set up a special collection (will not be charged) so the Refuse Crew knows there are bundled limbs/brush to be picked up at your location. Bundled limbs/brush will be picked up on Wednesdays and must be at the curb.

Riffraff Week

Riffraff week will be May 21-25 on your normal refuse pickup day. All items must be put at the curb. The refuse crew cannot go beyond the sidewalk. Tires, construction materials, batteries, and paint cans cannot be picked up during riffraff.

Holiday Refuse Schedule Change

The Bellefonte Borough will be closed on Monday, May 28, 2012 in observance of Memorial Day. If your refuse & recycling are normally collected on Monday, it will be collected on Wednesday, May 30, 2012.

Skunk Removal

Bellefonte Borough Council has agreed to extend the skunk removal program through the summer. If you are experiencing a problem with a skunk, please contact the Borough Office at 355-1501, Ext. 10. Arrangements will be made for a trap to be set up at your location, at no cost to you. Reasonable efforts will be made to capture the skunk in a timely manner.

In speaking with the Game Commission, here are some things you can do to keep skunks from becoming frequent visitors at your home:

Remove bird seed (this is also good advice to keep the black bear away)
Do not leave cat/dog food outside
Purchase Spectracide (or something similar) for your yard, which will kill the grubs that the skunks dig for

9-1-1 Addressing

With Centre County having a 9-1-1 system in place, the importance of having an address number on your home cannot be emphasized enough. In an effort to serve you better, Bellefonte Borough is requesting that residents cooperate in posting their street numbers on their homes. The following are the specifications as written in the Borough’s Property Maintenance Code.

304.3 Premises identification. Buildings shall have approved address numbers placed in a position to be plainly legible and visible from the street or road fronting the property. These numbers shall contrast with their background. Address numbers shall be Arabic numerals or alphabet letters. Numbers shall be a minimum of 4 inches (102mm) high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inch (12.7 mm) for one and two-family homes. All commercial buildings, including buildings that have 3 or more residential units, numbers shall be a minimum of 6 inches high with a minimum stroke width of 0.5 inches.

The main concern of everyone is for the safety of the residents of Bellefonte Borough. You never know when you may be the next one to call 9-1-1 for an emergency. Be sure your house number is posted and visible from the road so you can be found as quickly as possible, as every minute counts.

Bellefonte Borough Safety & Property Maintenance Code, 2011 edition

Bellefonte Borough council adopted the Bellefonte Safety & Property Maintenance Code, 2011 edition. This code shall be construed to secure its expressed intent, which is to ensure public health, safety and welfare insofar as they are affected by the continued occupancy and maintenance of structures and premises. Existing structures and premises that do not comply with these provisions shall be altered or repaired to provide a minimum level of health and safety as required herein. This code also adopts the International Fire Code 2009 in its entirety.
