The Local Government Grant has provided financial support for the arts in Bellefonte since 1981. The funding source is the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts with a matching contribution from the Borough of Bellefonte. The grant has historically funded many music, dance, and theater performances, art and museum exhibits, films, arts-related workshops for children and adults, and commissioned art. This program has offered both audience and educational opportunities in the arts to the community. Most of the events are free, involve regional artists, and are held in Bellefonte’s Historic District.

Each year the grant is divided into awards to local applicants for eligible proposals. The 2009 grant totals $13,000.
