Mayor’s Welcome

Welcome to Bellefonte!

My name is Gene “Buddy” Johnson and I am honored to be the Mayor of Bellefonte. It is my pleasure and honor to serve this borough and help our community however possible.

The Borough of Bellefonte was founded in 1795 and is currently comprised of around 6,105 people. It is home to 7 past Governors and is filled with a storied history. The Borough of Bellefonte is filled with stunning examples of Victorian architecture and is home to the Big Spring which provides approximately 15 million gallons of water on a daily basis. The Big Spring also has a connection to the naming of Bellefonte which means “Beautiful Fountain” in French.

This Victorian jewel is a special place that is filled with opportunities for all to enjoy; such as shopping at one of the numerous stores or eating at a variety of different downtown restaurants. You can stay at one of the Bed and Breakfasts located in town and engage in numerous recreational activities like fly fishing, kayaking, or just taking a stroll on the waterfront walkway.

Annual events such as The Big Spring Festival, The Children’s Fair, The Bellefonte Cruise, and The Bellefonte Arts and Crafts Fair are events anticipated by locals as well as people from across the United States.

I am delighted and proud to call Bellefonte home for my family and to have the opportunity to serve as Mayor of this extremely special place.

Thank You,

Gene “Buddy” Johnson, Bellefonte Mayor
