School Resource Officer

SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICER

Through a cooperative effort between the Bellefonte Borough Police Department and the Bellefonte Area School District, we have two School Resource Officers (SROs) in the district working with the students, teachers and staff.

Officer Mike Lyons and Officer Shawn Luse are currently assigned to maintain security and safety of all district buildings. In addition to the security and safety of the students they will assist with responding to calls for service and conduct educational classes to all grade levels.

The School Resource Officers are a wonderful asset to both our department and the school district.

  • Enhances the delivery of law enforcement related education to students
  • Promotes a greater understanding of law enforcement
  • Builds a rapport between students and law enforcement
  • Reduces juvenile crime through education prevention and investigative efforts
  • Provides a law enforcement presence to attempt to prevent crimes on school property
  • Works with students and faculty to provide law enforcement related counseling referrals and guidance to other
    agencies when needed
  • Handles any criminal incidents that happen on or around school property
