There is no charge for residents of Bellefonte Borough, Spring Township, and Benner Township. Due to the COVID pandemic, residents are no longer able to receive a key for the compost facility. Residents must visit the compost facility during open hours.
Compost Facility Hours:
Monday: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tuesday: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Wednesday: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Thursday: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Friday: 5 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Saturday: 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (Beginning of April through the Saturday before Thanksgiving)
Sunday: closed
The Compost Facility is closed on the following Holidays:
New Years Day.
Good Friday
Memorial Day
Independence Day
Labor Day
Veteran’s Day
Thanksgiving Day
Christmas Holiday (Day before Christmas, Christmas Day)
What is allowed?
Bellefonte Borough, Spring Township and Benner Township residents can take compostable items such as grass clippings, brush, limbs, etc., to the Borough composting facility on Musser Lane. No construction materials may be taken to the composting facility.
Please note that the PA DEP permit does NOT allow for concrete, stone, etc.
Professional Tree Service
If you are a tree service, you must come to the Bellefonte Borough office to pay a tipping fee for disposition of tree parts.
- One axle vehicle, the tipping fee is $50
- Two axle vehicle it is $75.
You will receive a receipt which you must have with you when you go to the composting facility. If you have been doing work in Spring Township or Benner Township, you must come to the Bellefonte Borough office first to take care of the tipping fee, get your receipt, and then you can get a composting facility key from whichever township you were working in. If you are caught in the composting facility without a receipt for the tipping fee, you will be fined $500.
